Welcome to the Free & Open Source Software in Education web site. FOSSED is a concept whose time has come. For many years folks have engaged in teaching the use of proprietary applications to serve an immediate need under the guise of long-term preparation. We've learned that this is an exercise in futility. People change. Applications change. Given this inevitable change, it makes more sense to engage in the teaching of practical concepts related to computers and software in general. This site is dedicated to helping you with this "shift" in thinking. We hope you'll check back often for news, reviews, and how-to's. Thanks for stopping by! In 2013 FOSSed will grow to encompass all educational technologies. MLTI, 1to1, BYOD (bring your own device), cloud computing, tablets, and much more. If you want to learn about it for using in your school or classroom, then we want to help! *note: FOSSed was formerly known as NELS (Northeast Linux Symposium) until 2007 when the name was changed to FOSSed. |
